The 4 Most Powerful Words You Can Use to Build Your Business

In a previous blog, I shared the secret to success in direct sales. Spoiler alert! It all boils down to creating success for others. Simple, right?
For many the application is not as easy as you might think. I work with smart business owners, leaders, and entrepreneurs, but even the brightest among us sometimes struggles to apply this concept.

Why is the concept hard for business owners?

Why? I think it’s a case of missing the forest for the trees. We look for magic formulas, or elaborate scripts we can follow to build our businesses. Many organizations invest unbelievable resources in these endeavors…but to no avail. And why is that? Because there are no shortcuts in good business. It really is as simple as looking beyond the end of your nose to empower those around you. And the special script for this concept? I have several versions for you, and not one of them is longer than four words.

Script #1: How can I help?
Script #2: What do you need?
Script #3: What can I contribute?

There are no shortcuts in good business.

You may be thinking: “That’s too obvious, too easy, and way too touchy-feely! Besides, what does this mom of four know about business anyway?” Fair enough, allow me to flash you my creds: I have some experience with sales (as a top awards earner in the US division of the 3rd largest pharmaceutical company in the world). I know a little bit about building a business (I’ve promoted to top ranks in two different direct sales companies) and I consider myself something of an entrepreneur (I’ve created multiple six-figure incomes through my business endeavors). I’ve learned through trial and error and, as a businesswoman, I can confidently tell you that this one simple question can produce incredible energy, change, and success in your business.

Let’s think it through for a minute. As a leader, you’ve been on the path that a newer consultant is traveling. You’ve mastered the skills they are still learning. No, you CANNOT do their work for them, but you can help them. You can loan them your experience and insight. You can share what you have learned and remove roadblocks from their path. You have already figured out how to do this.

Reasons people use to not lift their team members.

Why would you hold this knowledge back from your team? Because if they don’t do it on their own, they don’t really earn it? (I encounter this attitude a lot!) Because THEY are the owners of their businesses and they should get paid on their efforts, not yours? Because they run their business differently that you do? Because you believe that if you help them, you will have to help EVERY person on your team and that is humanly impossible in terms of time and energy? Because if you remove roadblocks for them, they may surpass you in their business?

Many of these are valid and real concerns but each of these reasons for withholding assistance to teammates demonstrates shortsightedness on the part of the leader. Your team will replicate what they see you do. If you don’t reach out and help, they won’t reach out and help. By the same token, if you DO reach out and assist in removing roadblocks and barriers for them, they will do the same for others on their teams. And those others do the same for others, and the power of this one simple step will amplify as its effects ripple through your team and your company.

My Team Motto: TOGETHER WE CAN!

There’s a reason my team motto is: TOGETHER WE CAN! Together we are more than the sum of our parts. Together we can do so much more. We each bring unique gifts and abilities into the equation and if we are smart about leveraging them, together we can multiply our effectiveness and success.

What four word script do you use most often to build your business? Share your thoughts and borrow someone else’s.

It’s how we learn, grow, and get better TOGETHER!
